A note from Bernard after our June 5 Open House ๐Ÿ

Hi everyone, Bernard the Bumblebee here, buzzing in with a quick note from The Hive.

This past Friday, June 5, we hosted our latest monthly Open House. Several families came through our front door, walked our apartments, asked the questions families always ask (and a few we’d never heard before), and spent two hours getting to know how Horizons actually works. Martha, our staff, and our students were grateful to spend the morning with all of you.

If your family was one of the ones who came thank you. Choosing how you’ll spend a Friday morning when there are a hundred other things to do means more than you might think. We don’t take it lightly. You’ll be hearing from us over the next month with a few short notes & answers to the questions families most often ask after a visit, the application packet broken into easy pieces, and one or two stories from current families and graduates. If any of it isn’t useful, just hit reply with “no thanks” and Bernard will buzz off.

If your family couldn’t make it this time but wanted to- no worries. Our next Open House is just around the corner:

Friday, July 10, 2026 ย ยทย  9:30 โ€“ 11:30 am ย ยทย  2018 15th Ave S, Birmingham

We do Open Houses every month, so there’s always another date if July doesn’t work. You can RSVP any time by emailing Martha at mloukotka@horizonsschool.org or calling (205) 322-6606.

One more small ask, while I have you: if you know another family who’s wondering what comes next after high school for a young adult with autism, a learning disability, or a developmental difference, we’d love to meet them too. You can refer them in 30 seconds at horizonsschool.org/refer, or just send Martha a name. We reach out gently and only mention you if you say it’s okay.

That’s it from me for now. Thank you for being part of the Hive ๐Ÿ
