Horizons School students celebrate with university mentors their individual achievements to improve healthy habits. Horizons participated for the fifth year in the collaborative “I Can Do It” Program developed by the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
Mentors from the UAB Schools of Health Professions and Education guided young adults with learning and other disabilities to assess current physical activity and eating practices and implement a plan for improvement. All benefited from the weekly interaction, learning new skills and receiving much encouragement!
Horizons is one of three Alabama field sites for this worthwhile service-learning activity. Others include AIDB and United Ability. Emerging professionals learn how best to serve individuals with disabilities.
Thanks to the faculty and students from UAB Departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Human Studies for participation in this worthwhile program!
