
Post-Secondary Special Education Teacher
Alicia Lester has been teaching at the Horizons School since 2022, coming from a local public school district where she taught secondary Social Studies and secondary Special Education. In the Special Education classroom, Ms. Lester taught post-secondary transition and functional living skills to students who would not be seeking vocational or post-secondary education. With this experience, Ms. Lester continues to teach these skills, including functional (everyday) reading and math, social skills, transportation, and community field experiences.
She received her B.A. in History and U.S. Government from the University of Texas at Austin; M.A. in History from the University of Houston; M.Ed. in Secondary Education to teach History from the University of Alabama Birmingham; and, M.Ed. Secondary Special Education from the University of West Alabama.
Alicia was raised in the northwest states of Utah and Oregon. She has two children and a grandson; one child attended Alabama and the other Auburn. Her hobbies include tennis, crochet, piano, reading, and cooking.
